The Best Little Gallery in NYC

For my money, the best space in the city now is About Glamour at 103 North 3rd @ Wythe in Williamsburg. It is perhaps not so incongruous that the gallery is tucked away behind a retail front and hair salon middle. As posted on their site,"About Glamour is a unique multi-retail space, which encompasses a select shop, hair salon & gallery. Our mission is to provide a platform in which emerging creativities from all over the world to exhibit and promote their work whether that entails fashion, art, music or design."

The store itself is well curated, but the shows themselves are what I make the trip for (I've never gone for a cut, I'm too dedicated to my guy Nori). They are smart, never pretentious or precious, and showcase some serious talent. A good curator knows how to group together works that speak to the overall idea of the show while at the same time bringing attention to the individual artists' particular working of that idea, and to their work in general. This is the case with the exhibitions at About Glamour. Tomoko Ashikawa is one of the best curators around.
